ACTION CENTER - Maine's Truck Weights Pilot Project

TIME THAT HAS ELAPSED SINCE MAINE'S
SAFE AND EFFECTIVE IMPLEMENTATION
OF 100K ON SOUTHERN PORTIONS
OF THE INTERSTATE AND THE MAINE TURNPIKE

On December 16, 2009, the President signed a one-year truck weights pilot project that allows trucks weighing up to 100,000 pounds to travel on Maine’s entire interstate system.

The Maine Motor Transport Association has worked diligently over the years with Maine leaders, the Maine DOT, State Police and other groups to finally make a solution to this decades-long debate a reality. Special thanks goes to Maine's entire Congressional delegation and Senator Collins specifically for her introductionof this proposal and for shepherding this pilot project through the difficult and time consuming process.

In terms of showing the pilot project's effectiveness, the Congress will be looking to gather information on public safety and the effect on roads and bridges. MMTA encourages our members who benefit from the pilot to gather statistics such as mileage, fuel, and time saved because of the pilot project. It is also important for Maine citizens who have seen positive effects from this pilot project to share their stories as well. We hope to use both industry and personal information that is submitted through this site to persuade the congress and DOT to make the pilot permanent.

Thank you for taking the time to help us help you.  Please select which constituency you represent:
